Project Description
Capa High School
As developer, construction manager and owner, A.P. Construction successfully completed the development of the first LEED Platinum High School in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The school is a 90,000 sq ft. creative and performing arts high school, located in New Kensington, PA.
Topped with a distinctive saw tooth roof-line, this diminutive boutique of a high school provides a warm and welcoming environment. The long, gunmetal-gray building has a beautiful gym and 200-seat auditorium anchoring the main wing. The long span houses the innovative spaces, including dance and art studios.
The endeavor required designing, managing and developing the entire venture, with the culmination of a turn-key solution. The work included all site work tasks such as installing utilities, electric and gas, telephone, water and sewer lines. Other necessities consisted of heating with a geothermal heating system; the complete 1st floor masonry construction; the installation of approximately a dozen bath rooms; the fitting out of all administration offices; the building of a comprehensive library, full service kitchen, science labs, a gymnasium, a theater, a broadcast studio and a dance studio. It is fully fire sprinkled together with intrusion and security systems, per PA school district design standards.
The educational facility is in full use and holds up to 500 students.
