Project Description
PIA Runway Extension / Toll Plaza Relocation
Philadelphia International Airport handles 25 million passengers a year and is approximately the 18th busiest airport in the United States.
To help alleviate this high demand, A.P. crews lengthened the airstrip capacity of Runway 17-35 to 6,500 feet, extending it at both ends as well as creating the required runway safety areas. The efforts involved the full demolition of the existing runway followed by vast grading and bulk excavation for the 700’ landing strip transformation. A.P. crews also constructed a toll office building and toll plaza for long term parking facilities.
The scope for the $25 million utility project included general site work, demolition, concrete, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, masonry, steel and carpentry work, the installation of roofing, doors and windows and floors, and painting to complete the finishes.
